Elements of a great User Experience (UX)
User Experience (UX) is the process design teams use to create products that provide meaningful and relevant experience to users. It entails how a person feels when interacting with a system. The system could be a mobile or web application. The UX designers study and evaluate how the users feel about a system, looking at such things as esase to use, value, utility, efficiency and performance.
What makes a great user experience? There is no right or definite answer to this question. The truth is user experience is different for everyone. The most important thing to remember when designing web and user interfaces is that “you are not the users”. Don't assume you what they want or need.
The best approach is to get close to the users, talk to them, watch them use your product, get inside their heads and ask yourself questions about their decisions. Your users and customers will teach you, so pay attention. Below are elements of a holistic user experience. Let's dive into them:
Usability
Usability is one of the main facets of UX and its importance is unquestionable. UX has a lot more to it than just ensuring the product is easy to use. If users feel more comfortable and happy interacting with your system, chances are they will continue to use it. How do you ensure your product is pleasurable , immersive and accessible to users?
A reliable way is to focus on functionality, predictability and individuality. Your design must be functional, solve problems and make life easier for the users. It should be predictable in that it sets accurate about what happens after the users click, tap swipe which makes the user more comfortable and gives them a sense of control.
Look
It just takes a few seconds of viewing by users to determine how they feel about a design, their opinion about the trustworthiness and quality of what they are looking for. The visual aesthetic of a design has an incredible power to either draw people into dive into the site’s content or move to something else. A positive first impression is the only way to get the user to actually interact with your system.
The feel
Does the user feel joy or - more importantly has the user had a successful experience? Joy comes when the user is able to achieve their objective easily. Great UX designs do not need to be fun to satisfy user’s needs.
For instance, would a bank website that looks fun elicit trust and credibility? Maybe not. Giving the users what they want in a way that appeals to them is creating “Joy of use”
In conclusion, UX design is not only eliminating the users frustrations and solving problems but also being thoughtful, absorbing users in experience and bringing positive emotions.
