The role
We are looking for a GIS and Land Information Specialist consultant for contract work on public-sector and donor-funded assignments. You lead the spatial work on each assignment.
What you will do
- Set the spatial framework: coordinate system, base layers, registry index maps, survey plans and imagery.
- Design the spatial database in PostgreSQL/PostGIS with our engineers.
- Lead parcel mapping, land-record digitisation and data migration, and supervise a team of GIS technicians.
- Plan field verification with county surveyors and officers.
- Shape the land and property modules, the web map portal and the spatial dashboards.
- Train county GIS officers and administrators, and write the manuals and SOPs.
- Contribute to the GIS sections of proposals.
What you bring
- Mandatory: a degree in GIS, geomatics or geospatial engineering, surveying, remote sensing or a related discipline.
- Preferred: a Master’s degree in GIS, geospatial science, surveying, land management or urban planning.
- At least 5 years of GIS work, including parcel or cadastral mapping and land-record digitisation in Kenya.
- Strong QGIS or ArcGIS Pro, PostGIS and SQL, GNSS field data collection, and data-quality checking.
- Working knowledge of Kenyan land administration: registry index maps, survey plans, valuation rolls and Ardhisasa.
- Clear writing, and the patience to train non-specialists.
A strong advantage
Registration with the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya or a Land Surveyors’ Board licence, experience with a land information management system or a county spatial plan, and 10 or more years in land information management.
