The role

We are looking for QA and Test Engineer consultants for contract work, on a need basis, on public-sector systems: web portals, approval workflows, online payments, digital certificates, offline mobile apps and integrations with national systems. You plan the testing, automate it, run it and say plainly whether a release is ready.

What you will do

  • Write test strategies and plans, and trace every requirement to test cases.
  • Build and maintain automated API and end-to-end tests, and run them in CI/CD.
  • Test workflows, role permissions, payments, certificates and QR verification, reports and data migration.
  • Run system integration testing with national systems and gateways.
  • Write and run load, stress and soak tests against contract targets, with thousands of concurrent users.
  • Test Android and iOS apps, including offline use and synchronization, along with browser coverage and accessibility.
  • Prepare UAT, support the client’s officers through it and obtain sign-off.
  • Run defect triage, write bi-weekly quality reports and give a clear go or no-go for each release.

What you bring

  • Mandatory: a degree in computer science, IT, software engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 years in software testing, with hands-on automated testing of web applications and APIs.
  • Strong Playwright, Cypress or Selenium, and Postman/Newman or a code-based API test framework, writing tests in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Performance testing with k6, JMeter or similar.
  • Mobile app testing, SQL, REST and SOAP/XML integrations, Git and CI/CD.
  • Experience running UAT with non-technical users, and clear written reports and defect records.

A strong advantage

ISTQB certification (Foundation Level or higher; Test Automation Engineering, Performance Testing or Mobile Application Testing especially), and testing on Kenyan government, payment or regulated systems, including eCitizen, KRA or M-Pesa integrations.
